Moisture behind siding or window frames doesn’t just sit. It seeps into sheathing, framing, and insulation, turning a cosmetic fix into a structural repair. In this climate, that timeline is measured in months, not years.
This area features stunning natural beauty, with the inlet and mountains as a backdrop. Decks are essential for enjoying weekends outdoors, so they must withstand constant dampness without warping or becoming slippery.

Siding Solutions
Many homes in Port Moody need more than just a new coat of paint—they need siding replacement to stop water from getting in. Our process takes off the old, damaged siding and puts on a strong, weather-resistant layer.
The wet climate on the West Coast needs siding that can handle long periods of rain without warping. With the right materials and installation, your home stays dry and looks good for years.
Even new windows in Port Moody can let cold air in if the flashing isn’t done correctly. Window and door flashing seals those gaps and stops drafts that can raise your heating bills. Our team installs flashing that protects against rain and wind.
Over time, standard flashing tape can peel and fail, especially in Port Moody’s wet weather. Replacing it with strong, properly layered flashing keeps moisture out and your home comfortable.
Siding and Window Installation
When we replace siding in Port Moody, we remove the old cladding to check the sheathing. Any wood that is damaged by moisture is cut out and replaced. Then, we install a high-permeability building wrap with shingled laps to help shed rain. A ventilated rainscreen gap, usually 3/8-inch vertical strapping, goes behind the new siding. This allows any moisture that gets past the cladding to dry out. For materials, fiber cement siding and PVC trim resist dampness better than wood or composite products that can swell over time.
Before installing windows and doors, we add a continuous sloped sill pan at the openings. Then, we apply layered flashing tape up the jambs and across the head to create a water-shedding sequence. This method helps prevent wind-driven rain from getting behind the cladding. We also flash deck ledgers with metal Z-strip and standoff spacers to stop moisture from wet deck boards reaching the house framing.
Port Moody’s design focuses on managing bulk water. A secondary drainage plane behind the siding catches any rain that gets through the outer layer and directs it down to the base flashing. The rainscreen cavity helps equalize air pressure on both sides of the cladding. This reduces the chance of wind-driven rain being pulled inward. All window, door, and deck flashings are placed under the drainage wrap to keep a continuous downhill path.
Air sealing is very important in this climate. Warm, humid air from inside can leak into wall cavities and condense against cold sheathing, which can cause hidden rot. We install a continuous air barrier, often using taped sheathing or a fluid-applied membrane, to stop this leakage. This also improves thermal efficiency by reducing drafts, which is essential during Port Moody’s damp winters when heating systems need to work harder.
Port Moody Bylaw Overview
In the City of Port Moody, you need a building permit before starting new construction, adding on, or making significant changes to exterior structures. This includes decks that are higher than 0.6 m (2 ft) above the ground or attached to the house. Minor work like painting, landscaping, decks under 0.6 m above grade that are independently supported, fences, and repairs or replacements of exterior finishes usually do not need a permit.
Port Moody has rules about when noisy construction work can happen. This includes exterior remodeling, siding replacement, deck building, or installing windows and doors. Construction noise is allowed between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays and holidays, it is allowed between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. only if the work is not for profit. Any work outside these hours needs special written approval from the City.
According to Port Moody’s zoning rules, exterior elements like decks, porches, stairs, eaves, and gutters can only extend a limited amount into required yard setbacks. For example, decks can project up to 1.8 m into certain setbacks. Homeowners adding or enlarging decks or other exterior features must make sure these structures follow the minimum distance rules to lot lines and do not go beyond the allowed projection limits.
