Gutter Guard Materials

Vancouver’s Zoning and Development By-law controls how far eaves and gutters can extend into required yards. Gutters with guards can project up to 1.0 m into a yard but must remain at least 0.7 m from a side property line. If installing gutter guards changes that projection, the system must stay within these limits.
For protected heritage properties or in heritage conservation areas in Vancouver, eavestroughs and downpipes must stay watertight and not spill water onto walkways. Installing gutter guards may need a heritage alteration permit if it goes beyond regular maintenance.
