Small exterior cracks let moisture soak in, and that trapped water freezes and expands until the surface flakes and buckles. The damage spreads faster than homeowners realize, turning a quick fix into a bigger job. Ignoring it puts the siding at risk, too.
Not every exterior upgrade starts with damage. Some homeowners want to update the faded, outdated look of their property. A clean, freshly coated surface enhances curb appeal, making a significant difference in neighborhoods where pride of ownership is strong.

Exterior drywall repair benefits
Cracks and stains on your home’s outside walls do more than hurt curb appeal—they let moisture in. This moisture can rot the sheathing, invite mold, and turn a small problem into a big one. Our method stops this by repairing or replacing damaged sections and sealing the surface to keep water out.
The repair usually involves cutting out the damaged board, installing new moisture-resistant drywall, taping and mudding the seams, then priming and painting to match your current exterior. You will have a smooth, weather-tight finish that blends in and lasts. For a closer look at how we handle drywall in Vancouver, check out our service hub that explains the full process and materials we use.
Delta is right next to the Strait of Georgia and the Fraser River, so salt air and damp wind are part of daily life. This moisture gets into hairline cracks and worn paint faster than in other areas, turning small flaws into peeling and bubbling spots on your exterior walls.
Many homes in Delta were built around the same time, which means they share similar types of exterior drywall and aging patterns. Rainy winters and sunny, salty summers create a constant wet-dry cycle that damages any weakened surface. Fixing it here isn’t just about looks—it’s about staying ahead of a climate that speeds up damage all year long.
Drywall repair techniques
In Delta, we use fiberglass-faced gypsum boards for exterior replacements. Their glass-mat facings resist the area’s dampness and salt air. Standard paper-faced drywall swells and separates when moisture gets in. Upgrading to a mold-resistant sheathing board adds long-lasting strength.
Our installation involves cutting the damaged area square across the framing. We fasten the new board with corrosion-resistant screws every 8 inches around the edges and through the center. We bed fiberglass mesh tape into setting-type joint compound that cures without air. This compound won’t soften during wet-dry cycles. Finally, we prime and paint to keep out moisture.
Every repair must connect to the existing drainage plane. This ensures moisture that gets past the cladding cannot reach the framing. In Delta’s rainy climate, we make sure the weather-resistive barrier behind the sheathing stays continuous and overlaps new flashing at the lower edge of the repair.
If the home has a rainscreen gap behind its siding, we keep that air space across the repair area. This allows incidental water to drain and dry. We attach the board to studs with staggered fasteners to spread wind loads from storms. Integrating with window and door flashings helps maintain the weathertight line of the building.
Delta drywall permit requirements
A building permit is needed for most drywall work in Delta. This includes changes to walls, finishing basements, or altering layouts. All drywall work must follow the BC Building Code and Delta’s zoning rules. Drywall activities that create noise, like cutting, fastening, and sanding, can only happen from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. No construction noise is allowed on Sundays or holidays unless the City gives written permission for extended hours.
