Durable Exterior Solutions

With Fiber Cement Siding, your home gets a tough outer shell that won’t buckle or peel. It sheds rain and resists moisture that damages regular siding. You won’t need to scrape paint or worry about swollen boards.

Our installers seal every joint and edge to stop water from getting in. Your exterior looks clean and even, and it handles years of coastal weather. You’ll spend less time on upkeep and more time enjoying a home that looks great.

Serving Thornhill Area

Paragon Exteriors installs fiber cement siding for homeowners in Thornhill. A uniform siding installation makes your exterior look finished and hides the look of patchwork repairs.

We replace mismatched sections and update fading trim. We coordinate new siding with fresh deck staining so every surface matches. Your home looks put-together from the curb, with every part working together.

Fiber Cement Siding Composition

Fiber cement siding is made from Portland cement, cellulose fibers, and silica. These materials are mixed and pressed together, then cured in high-temperature autoclaves. This process makes the siding strong and resistant to rot, insects, and salt air.

The boards come factory-primed or with a baked finish. They are available in different styles like lap, panel, shingle, and vertical profiles. Installers use stainless or hot-dipped galvanized fasteners to blind-nail through the top edge. This allows the siding to expand and contract while leaving gaps at joints and trim as needed.

Cutting is done with carbide-tipped circular saws, and dust collection systems manage silica particles. Every edge that is cut in the field gets a primer seal to keep the product water-resistant and to prevent swelling.

Moisture Management Strategies

The siding works as a rain screen, not a waterproof barrier. Behind it, a continuous drainage plane, usually house wrap or building paper, directs any moisture down and out. Vertical strapping creates an air gap that helps with drying.

Flashing around windows, doors, and horizontal transitions is installed in a shingle style to guide water to the outside. Kick-out flashings at roof-wall intersections stop water from getting behind the siding. Fastener patterns connect back to the structural framing through the sheathing to resist wind suction.

A gap at the bottom of the wall assembly, along with weep screeds or vented starter strips, lets moisture escape and stops wicking from the ground. This layered system effectively manages the wet coastal climate of Metro Vancouver.

Siding Permit Requirements

In Burnaby, if you replace your siding with fiber cement, you need a building permit. Minor repairs might not need one, but a full re-side must follow the Burnaby Building Bylaw.

Vancouver’s Building By-law has rules for fiber cement siding. These include a two-plane weather barrier, minimum ground clearance, and sealed, weather-tight joints. These rules help the siding resist coastal rain and are important for compliance.

In Surrey, the Noise Control By-law limits contractor work on siding to 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, including holidays. Contractors cannot work on Sundays without a noise extension permit. However, homeowners can do the work themselves on that day.
