Vinyl Membrane Installation
We start by preparing the plywood deck. We fix any rot that often occurs in Vancouver’s damp climate. A solvent-based primer is applied to help the adhesive stick better in high moisture. Then, we spread a two-part polyurethane adhesive. The reinforced vinyl membrane, chosen for its flexibility with temperature changes, is rolled out and pressed into the adhesive.
All seams are overlapped and fused using hot-air welding. This creates a bond that is stronger than the membrane itself. At inside corners and scupper openings, we use hand-welded details to ensure a waterproof layer. We extend the vinyl membrane up the adjacent wall as base flashing, connecting it with the home’s existing weather-resistant barrier. Custom-fabricated boots at post penetrations are welded to the field membrane to prevent leaks.
A deck membrane in Vancouver must act as a drainage plane, directing rainwater outside. We build a slope into the structure to ensure water flows away from the house. Vancouver Deck Work Regulations
