Functional Kitchen Designs

A cramped, old kitchen can hold back your whole home. We start by stripping the room to its shell and rebuilding a layout that fits how you cook and gather.

We replace worn cabinets, old counters, and poor lighting with a fresh design that opens up the space. Every kitchen renovation in Vancouver we do focuses on better flow and durable finishes that work for daily life.

Tailored for Maple Ridge

Homes here mix modern family needs with the coastal rainforest backdrop. A renovation must handle humidity from fall rains and still feel bright during grey winter months.

This means choosing materials and layouts for Maple Ridge conditions—cabinets that won’t swell, surfaces that clean easily after muddy boots, and windows placed to let in all the natural light the valley offers.

Durable Materials for Kitchens

Outdoor kitchen cabinets in Maple Ridge need to handle moisture from the coastal rainforest. We use marine-grade polymer or powder-coated aluminum frames that resist swelling, warping, and rust. The countertops are made of sealed granite or engineered quartz with drip edges to help water flow off quickly.

We plan the installation to account for the valley’s wet ground and seasonal saturation. Cabinets are placed on adjustable stainless steel legs above a sloped deck, allowing airflow underneath. All fasteners are 316 stainless steel, and joints are sealed to stop water from getting behind the cladding.

Connecting to the Structure

An outdoor kitchen in Maple Ridge must connect to the existing weather barrier without damaging it. We use continuous metal flashing behind the ledger board, lapped under the house wrap, to guide moisture down and away. Countertop overhangs have a drip kerf to break surface tension.

Behind the backsplash, we create a drainage plane with furring strips and a rainscreen gap to let any wind-driven rain escape. The deck surface under the kitchen slopes at least 2% away from the structure, with a waterproof membrane turned up at all openings. This layered method keeps the framing dry despite the area’s constant wet weather.

Kitchen Renovation Permits in Maple Ridge

For a kitchen renovation in Maple Ridge that adds a kitchen, alters an existing kitchen as part of a secondary suite, installs new plumbing or electrical, changes structural components, or does other remodeling work over 10 m², a Home Improvement Building Permit is required. The work must follow the BC Building Code, Maple Ridge Building Bylaw No. 8097-2026, the Zoning Bylaw, and other regulations. If the renovation is for a secondary suite, a Building Permit is needed; the kitchen must meet BC Building Code and Maple Ridge Zoning Bylaw Section 402.24 rules on secondary suites. This includes limits on suite size, which cannot exceed 40% of the gross floor area, and limits on the number of dwelling units on the lot. When the construction value of the renovation is more than 50% of the BC Assessment Authority’s assessed value, the entire dwelling must have a fire sprinkler system. The City’s Engineering department must also review and, if needed, upgrade sewer, water, and storm service capacity before the Building Permit is approved.
