For homes in Richmond, we usually use mineral wool or high-density EPS boards for exterior insulation. Building Regulation Bylaw 7230, amended by Bylaw 9769, requires building permit applications filed on or after September 1, 2018, to meet the BC Energy Step Code. It also excludes exterior wall thickness beyond 0.16 m up to 0.31 m used for insulating materials from floor area calculations. This supports deep energy retrofit exterior insulation upgrades. Noise Regulation Bylaw No. 8856 limits construction noise to 85 dBA measured 15.2 m from the source. It restricts construction activity to set hours.
